Brad Wylde - Executive Director

As Executive Director, Wylde oversees the player development, guidance and coaching responsibilities for all children under the CSA soccer program. 
Wylde joined the former South Charlotte Soccer Association as Executive Director in 2005 and has grown the organization from a thirty team club to over 190 teams competing in all levels of play. In 2008 and 2009, Wylde coached the club’s first US Youth Soccer Regional Championship team and took the team to back-to-back Regional Championships and two appearances in the USYS National Championships.
 
Wylde is an associate National Staff instructor under the National Coaches Association of America, teaching state, regional and advanced regional courses in the Southeast Region. He is also a former NC Olympic Development state team coach.
 
Wylde has been influential in the growth of youth soccer in and around the Charlotte area, having created a club that now has a presence in several counties around Charlotte. Charlotte Soccer Academy is one of only two organizations in NC and SC to offer all levels of play available under the US Youth Soccer structure.  In addition to the successes on the field, Wylde oversees the day to day operations and business sector of the Club.  He has connected some of the cities’ most reputable corporations to CSA through CSA's Sponsorship program.   
  
Wylde was a standout player at Catawba College and an NSCAA All American; he was a 5 year professional player with the Charlotte Eagles, SC Shamrocks, and Carolina Dynamo. Following his playing career, Wylde served as Assistant college coach at Catawba while obtaining his MBA. 
 
Wylde is fully qualified under the NSCAA, UEFA B license and in 2012 completed his UEFA A license through the Union of European Football Associations which is one of the highest coaching awards in the world. 
 
 

Mark Thornton - Operations Director

 
Thornton is a native of Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, having relocated to the US in 2000. As a young player, he played with Sunderland AFC and Ipswich Town. In 2000, he received a scholarship to play soccer at Appalachian State University (ASU). Thornton was a four-year starter, a two-year captain and All-Southern Conference and All-South selection during his career at ASU.
 
After graduation from ASU, Thornton was hired in 2004 as Technical Director of Coaching for Concorde Fire Soccer Club in Atlanta, GA. During his 4 years with the club, he also became Director of Coaching for Academy (U9–U12 boys and girls) and also Director of Girls U13–U18. 

In 2008, Thornton was hired by South Charlotte Soccer Association as a Director of Coaching. He is also an assistant coach for the North Carolina ODP program. Thornton currently holds his USSF "A" License. 

 

Jim Finnerty - Director, Recreational Soccer

 
Finnerty was hired by SCSA from Carolina Select, formerly Tega Cay Soccer Club, where he was the Director or Coaching for four years. Finnerty was instrumental in growing Carolina Select into a 20+ team organization in the Fort Mill, Rock Hill area.
Finnerty was a two time All American at Fredonia College in New York. He played 4 years professionally in New York and North Carolina for the Carolina Dynamo.
Finnerty is fully licensed under the NSCAA with a Premier Diploma and a National B license from the USSF.
 
 
 
 

Dan Dudley - Tournament Director

Dudley is a former collegiate standout at Catawba College and a three year professional player with the Carolina Dynamo. A former 3 year Men’s Assistant Coach with High Point University and former 4 year Women’s Assistant Coach with Catawba College, Dudley comes to SCSA from FC Carolina Alliance where he served as Director of Coaching for six years. Also a member of the NC Olympic Development State Team Coaching Staff, Dudley is fully qualified through NSCAA, holds a USSF A’ License and has a (MSS) Master’s in Sports Science from the United States Academy, Alabama. Dudley is our Tournament Director.


 

Joe Crump - Director, Goalkeeping

 
Joe joins CSA from Triangle United where he served as their Boys Director of Coaching and Goalkeeper Director.  In addition, Joe was also the Goalkeeper Coach for the University of North Carolina men’s soccer program.  Prior to UNC and TUSA, Joe served as Assistant and Goalkeeper Coach for Elon University men’s program, Cincinnati University men’s program and East Carolina University women’s program.

Joe currently holds his USSF A License.

 
 

CSA-Charlotte Directors of Coaching

 

Patrick Daka - Technical Director and Director, U9/U10 Youth Academy Boys and U11Challenge/Classic Boys

 
Daka was invited to join the coaching staff at the now Charlotte Soccer Academy (CSA) in 2004 (formerly South Charlotte Soccer Academy), and has gained considerable experience coaching both boys and girls teams up to the Classic level. His teams have been successful in nationally ranked tournaments.
 

Daka is the Assistant Men’s Coach of USL-Pro League’s Charlotte Eagles Soccer Club and a former Eagles player. He played professionally for 17 years beginning as a high school senior in Zimbabwe and is a recipient of numerous team and individual accolades including Collegiate Male Athlete of the Year in the Western conference and various top scorer awards. Daka currently holds the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, NSCAA Director of Coaching License, USYS National Youth Licence and USSF "B" license.

Phil Hufstader - Director, U9/U10 Youth Academy Girls and U11 Classic/Challenge Girls

 
Phil comes to CSA from Cape Fear Soccer Club in Wilmington, NC where he served as the Director of Coaching for the past four years. Phil brings a wealth of knowledge to CSA from the experience he obtained at Cape Fear overseeing their camp, recreation and player development sections of their club.

Phil was a two year professional player with the Wilmington Hammerheads of the USL 2ndDivision and started his own business specializing in speed and agility training while residing in Wilmington. He is currently working with the NC Olympic Development program and is an Associate National Staff Instructor with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Phil is fully qualified with the NSCAA holding his Premier Diploma.

 

Raymond Fraser - Director, U12 & U13 Challenge/Classic Boys

Fraser comes to Charlotte as a native of Glasgow, Scotland where he spent three years as a professional player in the Scottish leagues with Glasgow Rangers, Ayr United, and Queens Park. Whilst in Scotland, Fraser was invited to coach for the Scottish Football Association (SFA) where he spent three years working with several pro youth teams. During this time he earned a degree in sports coaching and youth development at the Scottish School of Sport, Exercise & Outdoor Studies.
 
Fraser began his American coaching career at Lake Norman Soccer Club where he spent five years as a director of coaching. During this time, he received a full scholarship to play soccer at Pfeiffer University where he double majored in Business and Sports Management.
 
Fraser joined South Charlotte Soccer Association in early 2006. Fraser is a North Carolina Olympic Development Program (ODP) coach, holds his Advance National Diploma from the NSCAA, USSF C License, and numerous qualifications with the Scottish FA.

 

Sean Carlisle - Director, U12-U13 Classic/Challenge Girls

 
Sean Carlisle joins Charlotte Soccer Academy as a former Director of Coaching from Charlotte United Futbol Club since 2008. Sean also worked as a DOC at Charlotte Soccer Club, running and developing the Siskey Challenge Soccer program for CSC from 2003 through 2008.
Sean grew up in Charlotte as a successful youth soccer player and has been involved in youth soccer since. In his club soccer years, Sean played for the 79 CSC Blue, an elite, nationally-renowned team that won two state championships (94 and 95) as well as many of the nation's elite tournaments. As a four-year high school starter, he earned two state finalist medals as a freshman and a sophomore at Charlotte Catholic and then finished his high school career at Myers Park. Sean was a notable NC ODP and Region III ODP player from 93 through 98, adding to his success as a player.

He attended Spartanburg Methodist College and was the captain of his top 10, nationally-ranked junior college team coached by Dan Keneally. He was named to the All-Region X Team and received the Captains Award for Region X both years he attended SMC. He also was a National Honorable Mention both years he attended SMC, won the Region X Championship in 2000 and was named Region X MVP.

Sean has his NSCAA Premier Diploma as well as his USSF National Youth License

 

Ben Cook - Director, U14-U15 Classic/R3PL Boys and Girls

 
Ben has been coaching for Charlotte Soccer Academy since 2008 and prior to this, has worked for various soccer clubs across the Southeast. For the past 15 years, Ben has worked for Challenger Sports, helping to develop them into the largest soccer camp company in North America as a Regional Director for the Carolina region. As well as running over 100 camps each summer, Ben has helped soccer organizations across the region develop their programming, increase their membership and improve coach education and playing standards.
 
A native of England, Ben graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a BSc in Sports and Exercise Health Science as well as acting as President, coach and captain of the Football club. He also played semi-professionally for Newport F.C and holds various licenses from the English F.A as well as the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.


Ray Fumo - Director, U16-U18 Classic/R3PL Boys and Girls

 
Ray Fumo joins Charlotte Soccer Academy after serving as a Director of Coaching for Charlotte United Futbol Club. Ray grew up in the Charlotte area and attended Parkwood HS. During his tenure, he was a 3-time All-State selection and was named 2000 NC State Player of the Year and All-American the same year. He also spent two years with the US Youth National team. From there, Fumo was a three year starter at UNC-Chapel Hill where he was part of the 2001 National Championship team. He also captained the Tar Heels his senior season.
Following his college career, Fumo served as an assistant coach at UNC-Pembroke while earning a master’s degree in Sports Management. After finishing his master’s, Ray went to Germany and played professionally for FC Pforzheim. Upon returning to Charlotte, Fumo worked with both boys and girls at the former Charlotte Soccer Club as well as working with the NC ODP program. Fumo currently holds an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.  
 
 
 

Nathan Williams - Director, Elite Clubs’ National League

 
Nathan joined CSA in 2012 from after serving as Director of Coaching for Twin City Youth Soccer Association. Prior to the Twins, Nathan was the Director of Coaching for Placer United and California Development Academy in Northern California.
Nathan holds his USSF A License, UEFA B License, NSCAA Premier Diploma, USSF National Youth License, USSF National GK License and will be starting his UEFA A License this summer. He is the former Region IV ODP head coach for the U15-U16 Girls age groups and was instrumental in the development of the new NC Fusion program and was a part of the three teams that went to the USYS regional championship in 2012, two of which made the regional semi finals. Over the past ten years, Nathan has been an integral part of the college placement process of his two former clubs (Placer United and Twins/Fusion) sending players to such programs as Stanford, UCLA, Wake Forest, Clemson, Campbell and UNC Greensboro.
 
 
 

Richard Butler - Director, US Development Academy 

 
Butler is a native of London, England, and relocated to the United States in 1987, having received a scholarship to play soccer at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) where he was a four year starter and two year captain of the team. Butler graduated from UAB in 1992 and moved to Williamsburg, Virginia. He was the Director of Coaching for the Williamsburg Soccer Club from 1992 until the summer of 2006. During his time there he took the club from four travel teams to a full service club offering programs for four year olds to Under 23 players and older with their Premier Development League team, the Williamsburg Legacy. From 2001-2006 Butler also served as the head coach of the Legacy reaching the playoffs in five of the six years he was in charge.

Butler holds a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Premier Diploma (NSCAA) and in 2007 was named a National Staff coach for the NSCAA. His main duties at the Charlotte Soccer Academy will be to oversee the U18 and U16 US Soccer Developmental Academy.
 

CSA-Matthews Directors of Coaching

 

Andy Guevara - Director, CSA-Matthews U9-U18 Boys


Guevara, a former player at Butler University has been coaching since 1996 at the high school and club level. Starting his coaching at Terre Haute Flyers FC in Indiana, Guevara was also the Assistant Men’s Coach at Terre Haute High School. Moving to South Carolina in 2001, Guevara became the Head Mens’ Coach at Berkeley High School. In 2010, Guevara moved to Charlotte and is currently the Head Mens’ Coach at Independence High School and was a Director of Coaching for Mecklenburg Union Futbol Club (MUFC). Guevara currently holds his NSCAA National Diploma and USSF D license.
 


 
 

Rod Jackson - Director, CSA-Matthews U9-U18 Girls

 
Jackson has 10 years coaching experience around the Charlotte area. Starting at Indian Trail Athletic Association, he spent the last 6 years with Mecklenburg Union Futbol Club (MUFC). At MUFC, Jackson served as the Youth Academy Director as well as a coach at the classic level. Jackson also coached at the school ranks starting as the Assistant Womens coach at Butler High School to currently being the Mens’ and Womens’ coach at Porter Ridge Middle School. Jackson currently holds his USSF National Youth License.



 

CSA-North Directors of Coaching

 

Matt Denton - Director, CSA-North U9-U13 Boys and Girls

 
Denton was former collegiate standout and two year team captain at Pfeiffer University. During his time at Pfeiffer, Denton led the team to an NCAA National ranking and a conference contender year after year. He Earned a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Business Administration and Marketing with concetrations in Finance and Economics. Denton coached the very first CSA Cabarrus team and directed the Academy program in its inaugural year 2009. Denton is currently going through his licensing courses with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
 


 
 

Nathan Wade - Director, CSA-North U14-U18 Boys and Girls

 
Nathan played three years at Northland International University in Wisconsin, where they competed in the NCCAA Div. 2 National tournament in 2007 and 2009 finishing in the top 10 in the nation both seasons. In 2010, he graduated with a degree in Sports Ministries.

Nathan currently holds a USSF National “B” License, as well as NSCAA Advanced Regional diploma. Prior to joining CSA-North, Nathan was the Executive Director of Waxhaw Soccer Club and the head coach of the Cuthbertson High School Women’s team that made it to the 2A State Championship in 2012.
 
 
 

Meanu Kayea - Director, CSA-North Recreational Soccer

 
Kayea, a native of Liberia, West Africa, is a former player at GCC in NY and also Judson College in Illinois. Kayea then played professionally for the Charlotte Eagles from 1993 to 1995. Kayea is a former director for 2xsalt sports ministry and has worked for many clubs around the Charlotte area in his 12 year coaching career, including many years with CSA
