CSA Aligns with CDL for pre-USSDA Program

Charlotte Soccer Academy Align with Newly Formed Carolina Development League

With the Development Academy path starting at U13, CDL is poised to track, prepare select players between 9 to 11 years old

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In its continued efforts to make player development a top priority, Charlotte Soccer Academy announced that it is one of six North Carolina clubs to align with the newly formed Carolina Development League (CDL), which is poised to advance the state’s 10-11 year-old player with the top standards for training, matches and events.

The new league – including Charlotte Soccer Academy (CSA), Carolina Rapids (CRSA) Discoveries Soccer Club (DSC), North Carolina Fusion (NCF), Queen City Mutiny (QCM) and North Carolina FC (NCFC) – will align player development with the standards of the Development Academy Program and better prepare the player for the highest level of play.

“We created a league for the U11 Pre-DA player last year and this is just an expansion to include the 12s for next year,” explained Steve Gummer, CSA’s Development Academy Director. “It is most important for our members to know that the standards and the level — from both a training and match day standpoint (for the players) — will remain the same as we strive for excellence within the program.” Our philosophy on player and team development is to provide a path way from grass roots to the highest USSDA Level.

Aimed to better connect individual player pathways for young players from Zone 1 to Zone 2, the CDL will be instrumental in integrating players into each DA club at early ages.

“In essence, the DA pathway now starts at U13, not U12 — and our current 12s will move up to U13 next year,” continued Gummer “What we've created is a league within North Carolina — to play local — adhering to standards that were created by U.S. Soccer and the DA.” US Soccer are entrusting the USSDA clubs across the Nation to continue the good work by administering the leagues on a feasible geographical reach.

Added Gummer : “The main thing to understand is that U.S. Soccer is de centralizing 12s from under their player development pyramid from a development standpoint and putting that onus and responsibility on the local clubs, but the game day format is not going to change and the philosophy around those age groups will not change. This is just a matter of the [DA] saying, ‘Let’s impact change locally now that we’ve set the standard, and the local clubs govern it from here.”

ABOUT US SOCCER DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY

Following a comprehensive review of elite player development in the United States and around the world, U.S. Soccer created the Development Academy in 2007. The Academy Program's philosophy is based on increased training, less total games, and more meaningful games using international rules of competition. In the Fall of 2017, the Academy expanded programming to include a Girls Development Academy. The Academy has 197 total clubs, comprised of teams across six age groups in the boy’s program: U-12, U-13, U-14, U-15, U-16/17, and U-18/19. The Academy Program focuses on positively impacting everyday club environments to assist in maximizing youth player development across the country. The Academy values individual development of elite players over winning trophies and titles. The Academy sets the standard for elite environments for youth soccer clubs nationwide and is a part of U.S. Soccer's global leadership position in youth soccer that will impact thousands of players.
