Region III Championship Action

CSA Teams in Southern Regional Championships!

Three CSA teams have been participating in the Southern Regional Championships in Greensboro, NC over the past week. The event brings together the top USYS teams in Region III, with the winners earning a trip to the USYS National Championship in Frisco, TX. All the teams had great runs in the Regional Championships: 01 Charlotte Predator and 03 Charlotte Torsion progressed to the quarterfinals and the 02 North/Cabarrus Predator advanced to the regional semifinal game! CSA congratulates all the players and coaches on their fantastic showings.

The 02 North/Cabarrus Predator Girls, coached by Mick Wakeman, locked in their U15 Regional Championship spot as finalists of the U15 USYS North Carolina State Cup. A second place finish in this past weekend's Regional Championship pool play secured the team a spot in the quarterfinal round. The quarterfinal matchup against the Tennessee SC team was a nail-biter, with the teams tied 1-1 at the end of regulation play. Predator got down 3-1 in overtime but fought back to tie it up 3-3 in the dying moments of the overtime period to force the game to a PK shootout. Predator prevailed in the shootout and played Solar SC (TX) their semifinal match. In another hard fought game that could not be resolved in regulation or overtime, Solar SC won the penalty kick shootout to advance to the Finals.

The 01 Charlotte Predator Girls, coached by Gary Forbes, took their place at the Regional Championships as the U16 North Carolina USYS State Cup Champions. The team went undefeated in Regional Championship pool play against teams from North Carolina, Arkansas, and Alabama to progress to the quarterfinal round. Following a tough quarterfinal match against a South Lakes SC (OK) team that remained tied at the end of overtime, Predator lost in the PK shootout.

The 03 Charlotte Torsion Girls, coached by Heather Frelin, qualified for the Regional Championships in the U14 age group as finalists of the North Carolina USYS State Cup. The Torsion team won their Regional Championship pool over the weekend, going undefeated against teams from Oklahoma, Florida and Texas, and progressed to the quarterfinals. On Monday, The team narrowly lost the quarterfinal game 1-0 against a strong team from Lonestar SC (TX).
