For Immediate Release:  Charlotte Soccer Academy Hires Ian Carry, ECNL Goalkeeping Director

CSA is pleased to announce the hiring of Ian Carry to our full-time staff as the ECNL National Goalkeeping Director. Carry is replacing Michael Winstone who has taken a position at AYSO United in Alabama.

Coach Carry is one of the most decorated coaches in the country having 15 years of coaching experience at the professional and collegiate level combined. Prior to his hiring at CSA, he was the head women’s coach at the University of Kentucky for five seasons where he helped the Wildcats reach the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen and make two second-round appearances. He first joined the coaching staff at UK in 2013 after two years as assistant coach at Central Michigan University.

Carry was a goalkeeping coach for 10 years at the club and professional level before joining the coaching staff at CMU. He was the Goalkeepers Coach for the Republic of Ireland National Team from 2007-2011 for the U15G, U18B and U19G age groups. He was also the Goalkeepers Coach for SFA Regional Women’s Squad (2006-2007), Dundee United FC Pro Youth (2006-2007), Carlisle United FC First Team (2005-2006), Celtic FC–Scottish Premier (2004-2006), U13, U14 and U15 West of Scotland Boys (2001-2004) and St. Mirrens Boys Club (2001-2002). Early in his coaching career he was Head Coach of the U13, U14 and U15 age groups at West of Scotland Girls, Assistant Manager and Goalkeepers Coach at FC Kilmarnock Women’s Club (2001-2004) and Community Coach at Scottish Football Association (2000-2004).

Before coaching at the collegiate level, Carry played on the international and professional stage. Carry played on the Irish National Team from 2010-2011. He also had stints at the Shamrock Rivers from 2010-2011, Sporting Fingal from 2009-2010, Queens Park FC from 2000-2001, Home Farm FC from 1995-1998 and Longford Town FC from 1993-1995.

2010 International Centenary Shield - U18B Republic of Ireland National Team

2009 Celtic Cup - U18B Republic of Ireland National Team

2008 Bob Docherty International Trophy - U15G Republic of Ireland National Team

2008 International Centenary Shield - U18B Republic of Ireland National Team

Coach Carry holds a UEFA Goalkeeping License, the highest coaching award in Goalkeeping, as well as multiple licenses with the Scottish and Irish FA.

“With the level of our ECNL National Programs, for both boys and girls, we knew that we needed to bring in someone with extensive experience and quality at the highest level to compliment the success and abilities of our current goalkeepers,” states Brad Wylde. “Ian fits the criteria having worked with National teams in Ireland and Scotland as well as being a Division 1 collegiate coach at one of the highest-level schools at the University of Kentucky. Adding Ian to our already decorated coaching staff continues to solidify our mission here at CSA to be one of the strongest clubs in the country.”

“The opportunity to join such a prestigious nationally renowned club such as CSA does not present itself very often,” states Coach Carry. “Speaking with Brad in October about the club's immediate and long-term vision, which had a heavy emphasis on the elite development of goalkeepers for the continued success of the organization, the decision to accept this role was one my family and I were very excited about. Having the ownership to road map the careers of young elite male and female goalkeepers is something which I am very passionate about, and I am very much looking forward to beginning the next chapter of my career in January.”

Coach Carry will be relocating to Charlotte in January with his wife, Stephanie, and two young children, Aidan and Caelyn, and will begin his new role at CSA on January 3rd.
